Nothing has been augmented to simulate the stage and auditorium format that tends to work well for both thrash and death metal, particularly the mundane drum lines which seem content to play support all day while the guitars have all the fun. When the first track is titled "Hammer Smashed Face", you know your eardrums are in for one hell of a beating. Overall, the best thing going for this album is the guitars and bass. The guitar tone is amazing. Despite how low and distorted it may get, a singer’s voice is responsible for presenting the human element in music: nothing affects the mood, pace, and general emotional atmosphere of a song more than the vocals. This is what Cannibal Corpse set out to do on this album, and I would say that they achieved it magnificently.

If you aren’t going to play good guitar solos, best not to include them at all. That doesn't necessarily mean that Chris Barnes did a good job. I think Post Mortal Ejaculation has the only section that isn't just a riff, shredding or heavy chugging, also not very many solos surprisingly (which are mixed too low anyway, along with the singing/growling). When album begins with the legendary Hammer Smashed face it is immediately certain how this blood bath is going after this one and it wont stop before every corpse has been hacked and sawn apart. As someone who can't stand censorship, it makes me happy that even in the early 90s, people were spitting in the face of those who deemed anything offensive. I was 21 the first time I heard this disc and it almost made me scared. This means that this album is on the same level(pretty much, at least)as Suffocation, Cryptopsy, and the like. The production quality, for the time it came from, sounds pretty damn good to me. Barnes is pretty much as dull as ever, but his vocals benefit from their guttural counterbalance to the knife-like guitar rhythms, once again a plus to the production. The song specifically I Cum Blood always stuck inside of my head and it was a song I always had on repeat, so I HAD to check out the rest of the album, Tomb Of The Mutilated, and my god, I was EVEN MORE blown away after I listened to this record. The drums are an interesting thing. This album is easily one of the greatest death metal albums of all time - it has everything death metal should have and nothing death metal shouldn't have. They’re absolutely ridiculous! Basically each song is great and unique, each one by themselves, the issue is that listening to all these songs together in one album is annoying.
