In the middle grades, students begin to explore the complex influence of scientific findings and technology on human values, the growth of knowledge, and behavior. They will explore the influence of peoples, places, and environments on personal development. Social studies programs should include experiences that provide for the study of the ideals, principles, and practices of citizenship in a democratic republic.
